Private Game Reserve in Sabi Sands

2 nights including full board, guided game drives & bushwalks

Did you know that the warthog enters his burrow hind first? Why? Even the experienced ranger has to resort to hypothesis and suspects that the other way around could be too risky because of the danger of getting stuck due to the broad tusks. Did you know that elephants usually communicate in frequencies inaudible to man? Even the Shangaan scout, renowned for his sense of hearing, is deaf to these elephant calls although he hears and sees everything! Nonetheless expert rangers and scouts can guarantee a Big Five experience during the game drives in open 4x4´s, which take place twice daily, as well as during the essential experience – the bush walks.
Your sojourn is in one of the few untouched reserved of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which is incorporated into the Greater Kruger National Park. At the end of the day – after a sundowner, a night drive, and an excellent repast in the boma you can either retreat with a glass of select South African wine to observe the waterhole or share your impressions at the camp fire! You can spend your leisure time as well as the African night in one of the five thatched chalets of 6 suites, which afford a splendid view of the Manyeleti River.

Umdloti Beach

To claim that you can feel like Robinsoe Crusoe in this very special B&B may be just a little bit exaggerated. But you will be surprised to find such a restful place only a 20 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Durban. Your tastefully furnished room has a private terrace, which overlooks the Indian Ocean and you can observe whales, dolphins and fish eagles without leaving your deckchair. Enjoy a lazy day of beachcombing after a good breakfast – or enjoy a round of golf or riding! To top the day off – dine in one of the excellent fish restaurants just down the road!

Royal Natal National Park

2 nights - self-catering

You can’t manage to get much closer to the Amphitheatre in the Drakensberg. From your chalet you have a magnificent view of the summits which stretch for 5 km at an altitude of just 500 additional meters and are crowned by the Mont aux Sources, the source of 2 rivers, the Orange which flows into the Atlantic and the cascades of the Thukela River which winds its way through KwaZulu Natal. This is the ideal starting point for trekking tours – whether the easygoing Fairy Glen or the challenging Crack or Mudslide - as well as great trout-fishing, ornithology or horse-riding. So - if you prefer a change – enjoy the slightly more rustic environment of your chalet, which offers all necessary amenities – but you will “have” to stir your own cup of Nescafe at dawn, and grill your own South African braai (BBQ). You won’t want to leave this mountain refuge - and in case you’ve forgotten a thing or two at the supermarket - the camp store can help out.

Great Karoo

1 night including breakfast

Only a few areas of this world can compete with the expanses of the Karoo and the incomparable beauty of its stars. And there are probably only a few places in this world which are more conducive to this experience than this historic working farm, where the Southey family has been breeding sheep and racehorses since 1876. The old stables have been renovated with utmost care and historic décor and will make your stay a very special one. Witness a Karoo sunset with a sundowner and then enjoy a country dinner par excellence with fresh local products, whether succulent Karoo-lamb, venison or selected vegetarian dishes. Take it easy at the pool or at a game of boule – or explore the farm and its worthwhile game and birdlife or sites dating back to the Stone Age and the Anglo/Boer war.

Graaff-Reinet

1 night including breakfast

The pearls of the Karoo are located in a bend of the Sunday River at the foot of the Sneeuberg Mountains – nestled between the foothills of the escarpment and the endless semi-arid plains of the Karoo. One of the pearls is the historic town of Graaff-Reinet with more than 300 historical residential monuments ranging from the Cape-Dutch to the Victorian. The second pearl, which has been cultivated with utmost care for the last twenty years, is located in one of the historical monuments. It has won many awards not only because of its friendly service and accommodations, which are embossed with antiques, but especially because of the incomparable “Karoo Haute Cuisine”. You have the choice, for example: a brulee of kudu-liver pate as an amuse geul, a karoo lamb as a main course and an Amarula-souflee for dessert. Would it not be a pity if you had to miss out on these unique culinary delights? Let me assure you – it would!
